Computer Generated Art

These color images are computer generated art.  They are creations that  grow out of me and they make no attempt to document anything.  I am very much interested in exploring the possibilities of the computer printed image for its' own special characteristics.

I am self-taught as both a photographer and as a computer artist.

The work is based on photographs.  By combining vintage and my contemporary photographs, I create computer generated collages that often include both digital painting and traditional hand painting.  Starting with some sort of loose idea I begin putting pictures together with the computer.  I cut, paste abd rearange the pictures just as a more traditional working artist works but with access to the features of the tool itself.  This makes the work exciting for me.  Sometimes it almost seems like the pictures themselves are leading me with an unseen hand.  But I must use the computer creatively.  Skill, knowledge and technique are as important when using the computer as they are for artists who work with brush or chisel.  I can't simply push some magic button to have what I want come out the other end.  I wish I could because I seldom know when to quit on an image.

Images may be printed directly to commercially pre-processed paper, handmade paper, printed on acetate film and wet transferred to water color paper and a host of other techniques which I am just beginning to explore.  Although some of the work may resemble other forms of printmaking, I am trying to let the digital medium and my vision speak for themselves.
